Architect's dilemna

In June 1999 Portland's sister city Suzhou, China, in a most generous gesture of friendship, began construction of a replica of a 13th century Chinese Garden in the downtown Chinese section of the city. Assembled from pieces handcrafted in China and shipped across the ocean, Chinese workman methodically worked for over a year to fit together the stunning project, achieving an aesthetic masterpiece, the largest of its kind outside of China. Complete with reflection pools, meditation gardens, a scholar's entire living quarters, and a functioning tea house, this jewel adds a richness to the diversity of the Portland architectural crown.
