Homeland


The orchard trees, having given fruit for another year, golden up, their cherries picked and packed and shipped around the world; the waist-high hillside grasses have browned in the summer sun, and it's morning in The Dalles, Oregon, my homeland, on the banks of the mighty Columbia River.
