Wake-nunee-Tuki-wuki * (Mt. Shasta)

For the Shasta peoples The Mountain was at the center of their lives. Medicine men sought empowerment, gathering herbs and receiving instruction in dreams; Vision-Questers hiked clockwise around the mountain at treeline, half-a-day at a time, untill the full circumference was completed;baths were taken in the healing waters of the springs. But all human activity was restricted to forest-line or below, for the upper region of the mountain was the realm of the Great Spirits. 15 July 2008 11a.m.
*walk round and round but never on top (Shasta Tribal name for the Mountain)
